The Plainsboro Rescue Squad (PRS) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable entity (Registration Number: CH0223300) funded entirely by voluntary contributions from individuals and organizations. Everything from the ambulances, to uniforms, bandages and oxygen is paid for by these donations.

PRS responds to over 750 emergencies per year and has never charged for the service. Thanks to the dedication of many Plainsboro residents over the years, PRS has been staffed entirely by volunteers since 1974. Your contribution makes it possible for the Squad to continue its mission to help people who live, work or do business in Plainsboro.

Are there other benefits to an all-volunteer organization?

Sample photo of a EMS "jump kit"An additional benefit of a volunteer organization is that there are about 50 trained emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who live in town and have emergency supplies with them most of the time (most keep a well-stocked first-aid kit in the trunk of their cars). When an emergency occurs—at a local sporting event or restaurant for example—there is a good chance that someone nearby can provide immediate carewhile waiting for an ambulance.

During a mass casualty incident (such as a train derailment, aircraft or bus crash, or major fire), it is necessary to have a large number of trained people available. The Plainsboro Rescue Squad has at least 7 crews of trained emergency medical technicians ready to respond to large incidents in Plainsboro, on Route 1, and in surrounding communities.

We also provide emergency ambulance service to the others towns in our area, when their crews are busy on other jobs. And they help Plainsboro if we need them (an arrangement called 'mutual aid').

In addition, volunteers tend to acquire as much training as is available, rather than just that required to keep their certification. We do this because we love it. And it helps to keep your property taxes down.

What does it cost to keep Plainsboro Rescue Squad operating?

Please Donate!

It costs about $150,000-$200,000 per year to keep the organization operating with appropriate supplies and equipment. Currently, approximately 40% of our budget comes from a township donation (the township votes on this each year, so there is no guarantee as to what PRS will receive), about 50% comes from Plainsboro residents, and the remaining (about 10%) from corporations.
